Analysis of personal motion and gait using inertial sensors and location technologies for health applications

Our research is focused on the use of inertial sensors for gait analysis, including the development of devices, gait detection algorithms and parameter estimation. In particular, applying this analysis to the detection of fall risk and frailty in elderly people.

Personal localization in indoor and GPS-denied environments

This section contains works that discuss techniques for localization of people in indoor environments where GPS is not operative or reliable, based on access to RF transmitters (wifi access points, bluetooth nodes, RFID and UWB beacons), use of Pedestrian Reckoning (PDR) methods (whether foot-mounted or in a smartphone), and use of additional information such as maps, signals of opportunity, etc.

Fine-grained positioning with acoustic and ultrasonic signals

Here we list works giving details of acoustic and ultrasonic 3D positioning systems which offer high precision (typically around 1 cm) by measuring the time-of-flight of coded and modulated acoustic signals from a set of beacons in known locations and use of multilateration algorithms; a scheme based in the GPS positioning system.
